How Next Generation VPPs Will Maximize the Operational Value of DERs
The U.S. Department of Energy hopes the country will triple the current scale of virtual power plants (VPPs) by 2030. However, to date, the lack of predictability and control is why VPPs have primarily only been used as a last resort for demand response. For VPPs to play a larger role in supporting the grid and decarbonization efforts, grid operators must learn to trust in the services VPPs can provide. Next-generation VPPs will give grid operators the visibility, predictability and granular control they need to develop that trust.
