Senior Software Engineer

Virtual Peaker is looking for a Senior Software Engineer that will help solve the climate crisis by supporting our mission of building the utility of the future. The intermittent nature of wind and solar energy makes it much harder for electric utilities to keep the grid in balance. Renewable energy is going to save humanity, and Virtual Peaker is part of the solution.

Role Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer, you will work on an advanced Internet of Things aggregation platform, used by electric utility companies around the world to monitor and control devices and engage with their customers. You will build advanced real-time server and client applications utilizing a micro-services approach. You can expect to:

  • Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Develop flowcharts, layouts, and documentation to identify requirements and solutions
  • Write well-designed, testable code
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems
  • Comply with project plans and industry standards
  • Ensure software is updated with the latest features
  • Other duties, as assigned, that further aid Virtual Peaker in building the utility of the future

Education & Experience

The Candidate must have:

  • Proven work experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer
  • Experience designing interactive applications
  • Ability to develop software in JavaScript, Ruby on Rails, C++, or other programming languages
  • Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and ORM technologies
  • Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (Angular, React, Vue)
  • Experience with test-driven development
  • Proficiency in software engineering tools
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications
  • BSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field

Nice to have:

  • Basic understanding of the energy sector, with a specific focus on utilities
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Experience working with node.js, Express, and Sequelize
  • Experience working with Redis and MySQL
  • Experience working with Vue.js
  • AWS administration experience
  • MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field
