Graduating from an internship with Virtual Peaker to her current role as Software Engineering Team Lead, please join me in welcoming our newest teammate, Aubrey Allehoff!
What did you do before joining Virtual Peaker?
When it comes down to it, the thing I like the most from work is the opportunity to solve problems and provide solutions. The nature of software development provides the opportunity to engage in a raw version of problem solving and solution building that appeals to my love of communication. I find many cross-competencies when comparing it to my previous career path of linguistics.
Virtual Peaker is a software as a service (SaaS) operation that is intent on solving big problems with ambitious solutions. The problem set that it has taken on provides the opportunity to engage with challenging and important problems that can have a significant impact on people and the planet. Going further, the Relay suite is all about communication: it includes enrollment, messaging, incentives, and automation within its scope.
Working at Virtual Peaker allows me to contribute my skills and experience while doing work that fascinates me.
What’s your role at Virtual Peaker?
As the Software Engineering Team Lead assigned to the Relay development team, I am responsible for both producing and maintaining code within the scope of our Relay suite, and guiding a team of developers through the same. I keep track of ongoing and upcoming work, direct and focus the team towards work that will make an impact on our goals and priorities, and work to keep the flow of communication within and throughout the team open, honest, and thriving. I am invested in the growth of my team’s knowledge and experience, and am always looking for new ways to healthily challenge them that encourage growth.
I leverage my passion for communication and training in language to enhance outcomes on the Relay suite.
How Do You Personally Engage in Sustainability Efforts
In my personal life, I largely focus on minimizing waste. Technology related hobbies can produce a significant amount of e-waste; I am mindful to reuse parts that can be reused, and properly recycle and otherwise dispose of those that cannot. Recently, I’ve begun to think differently about my relationship with food; I’m relearning how to prepare meals for myself in a way that minimizes food waste (and maximizes taste).
In my professional life, I am keen to watch out for unnecessary duplication of effort. I’m also not afraid to ask hard questions upfront, which often has the effect of minimizing the amount of resources that needs to be put into any given project.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I adopt a “lifelong learner” approach to life. I love cats. I’m a lifelong Linux enthusiast. I create constructed languages.
