At a young age, Anna Carvill was drawn to energy efficiency, imagining a greener tomorrow. As our Director of Client Accounts, Anna works tirelessly to help realize those dreams with our utility partners, by helping program managers get the very most out of our platform. Join us in a long overdue welcome to Anna!
How did your previous life prepare you for Virtual Peaker?
When I was young, I envisioned myself working on energy efficiency and building synergy at a large scale. Don’t laugh, but I had this vision of working on a team that helped build or retrofit entire city blocks, or even multiple blocks of buildings, to work in a way that used little to no energy and could recycle/reuse other resources such as water to significantly reduce our carbon footprint as a whole.
While things don’t exactly work that way today (or dare I say “yet”?), my journey over the last 15 years hasn’t been entirely off-track from that dream. I was lucky enough to start my journey in energy efficiency program evaluation and consultancy. From there I “jumped the fence” to the implementation side of things and worked in the software startup world helping utilities with program design, sustainable energy efficiency strategy, and capital planning.
Virtual Peaker feels like another step toward that dream I had in my teens, as I get to help clients manage demand in even more innovative ways.
Tell us about your role at Virtual Peaker.
As Director of Client Accounts, my day revolves around improving our clients’ satisfaction with the platform and with our team. How great is that? I want our clients to be thrilled with the product, feel confident using it, and feel comfortable reaching out to me and the team anytime there is a question. Connecting with others has always been important to me, so I feel so lucky that building and maintaining relationships with people is at the core of my job responsibilities.
We are told that maintaining healthy relationships is one of the best things we can do for long-term health and happiness. I like to think I am helping bring a bit of that to the workplace as well.
How do you personally engage in sustainability efforts?
In our household, we try to focus on reusing anything we can and buying new as little as possible. Yes, we are those people who wash and reuse things like plastic bags, annoying? Absolutely! But I can’t quite bring myself to throw them out.
This year we turned our front yard into a community garden. This felt especially good because it helped on so many levels! We cultivated great relationships with our neighbors during the building project, we have cut down on water use, and we all have healthy veggies to eat that require zero transportation.
What can you tell us about yourself?
Outside of work, I enjoy being outdoors enjoying all that Colorado has to offer. I love trail running, mountain biking, climbing, and Nordic skiing. I do a bit less of these things on my own these days, as my 3-year-old is big enough now to join us on adventures! The summer has been full of strider bike rides to the park, hikes and goldfish in the foothills, and mountain bike rides with my little one “riding shotgun” in front of me on my bike, squealing on all the downhills.
