How did your previous life prepare you for Virtual Peaker?

I’ve been in the clean energy sector for about a decade and it never fails to fascinate and inspire me. Prior to joining Virtual Peaker, I worked at the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory managing domestic and international distributed energy resource (DER) programs with a variety of different stakeholders. I learned so much about how utilities, regulators, and policymakers all over the world are trying to accelerate DER deployment and integration. I’m really excited to see a whole new perspective on DER integration and management at Virtual Peaker.

Tell us about your role at Virtual Peaker.

I’m the Director of Client Implementation on our Client Success team which means I lead a team that implements new programs with clients. I work with clients to set them up in the Virtual Peaker platform, train them on how to use it, and coordinate with our OEM partners so that our clients can launch and manage successful demand response and distributed energy resource programs using Virtual Peaker products.

How do you personally engage in sustainability efforts?

Alexandra Aznar 1I recycle and compost, subscribe to a community solar project, and most fun for me is gardening using permaculture principles appropriate for my arid climate. As a former vegetarian, I still don’t eat a ton of meat, but what I do comes from local farmers engaging in sustainable land use practices–another topic that fascinates me! I also serve on my city’s Planning and Zoning Commission because it’s important for me to have a say in how my community develops sustainability over the coming years.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I love to travel and actually met my now husband on a trip to Spain 7 years ago. A lot of my hobbies–hiking, bird watching, going to hot springs–revolve around the outdoors which are so accessible and incredible where I am in Southern Colorado. My other hobbies include reading, crocheting, and renovating my old house. I’m also a mom to a very energetic 3-year-old (and a new baby on the way) and thus spend a lot of time figuring out how to raise good humans.
