The passion to fight climate change is nothing new for our new Business Development Representative Kara Miller. From her commitment to sustainability to her love of the outdoors, Kara is interested in leaving the world a little greener. Join us in welcoming Kara to the Virtual Peaker team!

How did your previous life prepare you for Virtual Peaker?

Kara Miller Sustainability 1As a kid, I was always outdoors. Whether I was hiking in the woods outside my house, building snow forts in cold weather, swimming at the lake with friends, or whatever else I got into- outside in nature was home. Most of our family vacations growing up were camping trips or trips to National/State Parks and, in high school, my favorite job was working for our local parks department. As an adult, I still love it all:  hiking, camping, stand-up paddleboarding, white water rafting, and traveling are in general some of the best memories I have from growing up to today have been made outside. As such, I’ve always cared about the preservation of these magical places and, as an adult, I recognize how many places I still have yet to see and how many of them are endangered due to climate change.

In my last role as an IT Recruiter, forming long-lasting relationships and helping solve end-client problems were my favorite parts of the job. I worked with a few different utilities companies during my time and working within that space was something I often encouraged many developers to pursue. Upon finding Virtual Peaker, I also saw it for myself. Having meaningful work that can improve the lives of others has been something that has always been a big factor in the roles I’ve chosen to pursue and working to help save the world and these places I love from global warming… What could be more meaningful than that?

Tell us about your role at Virtual Peaker.

As a Business Development Representative, I’ll have the opportunity to meet with new potential clients and qualify new business leads for our team to pursue in the name of more sustainable energy for all. I’ll act as an initial point of contact, asking discovery questions to better understand where the client is at currently in their journey, what their goals and pain points are, help educate them on potential solutions we can provide to them and their customers, and help form long-lasting relationships/partnerships in collaboration with my team.

How do you personally engage in sustainability efforts?

Kara Miller Sustainability 2I engage in sustainability efforts by thrifting and reusing as much as I can, avoiding fast fashion, recycling, utilizing reusable bags for groceries, limiting my at-home utility usage, and carrying my water bottle with me everywhere. As I’ve just bought my first home, I’m excited to start my compost pile, make energy-efficient upgrades to my home as I’m able, and continue to educate myself on ways to live more sustainably. One of my current goals is to start utilizing local refilleries to refill my toiletries and cleaning supplies to reduce waste.

What can you tell us about yourself?

My simple pleasures in life are walks with my dog, Scout, a good cup of coffee, time on the water or in the woods, and cozying up with a good book. I enjoy traveling/trip planning, thrift store shopping, trying out the new local hotspots, attending local events like festivals, concerts, plays, etc., working on home improvement projects, metal smithing, and spending time with my friends and family.

Come work with us to help change the world!
