Team Q&A: Tom Agger - Junior Product Manager - Content & Enablement sustainability

From helping foster renewable energy and conservation connections at the state level, traveling, or practicing their sustainability habits, our new Junior Product Manager, Tom Agger, is ready to make a difference. Join me in welcoming Tom to the Virtual Peaker team!

How did your previous life prepare you for Virtual Peaker?

Team Q&A: Tom Agger - Junior Product Manager - Content & Enablement sustainability #1 Before Virtual Peaker, I worked on local and state policy related to energy efficiency and electrification at a Wisconsin environmental nonprofit. One of my products was a roadmap for local governments about resilient and efficient buildings. I led every stage of roadmap development, which allowed me to get a taste for the complexities of product management. I was often juggling the development of multiple resources while iterating on local government feedback.

Through my role at the environmental nonprofit, I also refined my communications skills by writing blogs, case studies, and newspaper articles (long live print media). Previously, I also developed technical and legal writing skills during my time as a patent examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office.

I received a Master’s of Public Affairs and a Master’s of Environmental Science from Indiana University (go Hoosiers). This education gave me a good baseline understanding of the energy industry, although I still have plenty to learn. It also fueled my passion for environmental justice and energy efficiency.

Tell us about your role at Virtual Peaker.

I joined Virtual Peaker in March 2026 as a Junior Product Manager, with a focus on content and enablement. In my role, I assist the product management team, especially with the Shift Grid-Edge DERMS suite and Envision Forecasting suite products. I also help the team evolve products based on growing customer needs and feedback, and keep communications channels between teams running smoothly and effectively.

Additionally, I’m responsible for maintaining internal and external content, including release notes, help center resources, and internal trainings and guides.

How do you personally engage in sustainability efforts?

In general, I try to minimize my resource intensity in my day-to-day activities. This means biking instead of driving when the Wisconsin weather permits it, reducing food waste, and buying local. My passion for sustainability is aided by my interests in thrifted clothing and furniture, and my general distaste for AC. I try to take public transportation whenever I can, and I’ll soon be in the market for an EV.

What can you tell us about yourself?

Team Q&A: Tom Agger - Junior Product Manager - Content & Enablement sustainability #2I am from Silver Spring, Maryland, and I grew up in a sometimes chaotic but always loving household with 4 siblings. I also spent parts of my life in Nashville, DC, and Indiana. I now live in Madison, WI, and am thankful for my city’s beautiful lakes and bike paths.

Before settling into the energy/environmental space, I dabbled in various other careers. I studied mechanical engineering in my undergraduate studies, and briefly worked in the construction industry. I then volunteered with the Peace Corps in Cambodia, where I taught English to middle and high school students. I was also previously a patent examiner, where I learned all about patents related to cosmetics, toiletries, and dentistry (ask me about wig patents).

Outside of work, I love to read fiction, bake, run, and hang out with my niece and nephews when I can. If you ever want to borrow an Ursula K. Le Guin book, I’m your guy. My partner and I recently became AMC A-listers, so we can often be found at the movie theater even if there’s nothing good to watch. I have also been working on my pottery and trivia skills, but I am definitely not an expert in either. I love to travel and am hoping to explore more national parks this year. Finally, I love parentheticals (see above).

Come work with us to help change the world!
