When we read about some of the challenges facing utilities, it helps us remember—and celebrate–just how fortunate we are at Virtual Peaker. While the consultant’s recommendations are sound, we know how challenging it is to connect strategy to execution. Here are a few utilities that have made the leap:

• Austin Energy’s PowerPartner Thermostat program incentivizes customers to use Wi-Fi-connected devices to reduce overall costs and energy use
• Project PowerShift, a partnership between Washington Electric Co-op and Efficiency Vermont, reduces member and utility costs by shifting energy stored in smart residential water heaters to get the most benefits out of renewable energy
• EnergyUnited provides and sells equipment—including generators—at a subsidized rate to ensure safe, reliable service without interruption
