Connecting with the energy sector through the lens of renewable energy during college, Sierra Milosh went to work to make the world a little greener. From her personal sustainability efforts to her work managing integrations to help foster the use of DERs, join me in welcoming our newest Client Success IT Implementation Lead to the Virtual Peaker team!

## How did your previous life prepare you for Virtual Peaker?

I have always loved working with numbers and using logic to solve problems. I have also always been interested in sustainability and lessening the impact we have on our planet. While I was in school studying mathematics, I volunteered with a student organization that oversaw the installation and operation of renewable energy systems and energy efficiency projects on campus. This led me neatly into a graduate degree in renewable energy, where I focused on energy analytics and energy management.

After school and a brief hiatus to live in an off-grid cabin with my now-husband (yes, it was completely powered by PV), I worked as a building energy manager for a K-12 school system in Asheville, North Carolina. I learned the in’s and out’s of analyzing energy data and overseeing energy reduction projects across the school district. When I moved to Durham, I began working for [North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives](https://www.ncelectriccooperatives.com/)
, a G&T cooperative with 26 distribution cooperatives across the state.

During my 3 years at NCEMC, I worked on the [DERMS](https://virtual-peaker.com/platform/derms-suite/)
project in varying roles. I became the SME and technical project lead for behind-the-meter [demand response (DR)](https://virtual-peaker.com/demand-response/)
device integrations (water heater controllers and smart thermostats) and eventually worked up to the DERMS Project Manager, where I oversaw the development, implementation, and operations of all DR and [distributed energy resource (DER)](https://virtual-peaker.com/blog/distributed-energy-resource/)
programs within the DERMS for our [member-cooperatives](https://virtual-peaker.com/cooperatives/)
.

## Tell us about your role at Virtual Peaker.

I am very excited to be the Client Success IT Implementation Lead. In this role, I will lead the implementation and delivery of new program and product launches with [Virtual Peaker clients](https://virtual-peaker.com/partners/utility-partners/)
, with a focus on [NISC](https://virtual-peaker.com/blog/virtual-power-plants-the-nisc-integration/)
 and other [third-party integrations](https://virtual-peaker.com/apis/)
.

## How do you personally engage in sustainability efforts?

Sustainability is interwoven into my life in many small ways. I don’t get in my car without thinking about the gas and carbon it would take to get somewhere. I’m mindful of energy and water use within my house and gently close fridge doors and turn off running water when I visit the homes of others. I limit my meat consumption to only what feels necessary for my body, and I very rarely throw out food. Eventually, I would like to move back to a smaller home in an area where walking or biking is more readily accessible and where I have enough sunlight and fertile soil to expand my garden.

## What can you tell us about yourself?

I love human connection, learning new things, challenging myself, laughing, and making a difference in the lives of those around me. Music, art, and movement are all incredibly important to me. I take delight in the world, from the smell of a rainstorm coming in to a sweet interaction witnessed in my local diner. I need to spend time outside every day to feel like myself, ideally next to water. I love traveling, cooking and sharing food, singing karaoke, dancing, curling up with a good book and a cup of tea, going on big hikes, and sitting around a campfire and/or a good meal with friends.

I’m curious, hard-working, self-driven, and not afraid to make mistakes. I believe the greatest gift we can give ourselves is to constantly learn and grow as workers, partners, parents, friends, and humans. I don’t think small moments can be overvalued, and I actively try to pause to appreciate them as they are happening.
